Alignment Strategic Planning

MATTeR

This is a simple, straightforward way to strategize that can be done within an extended department or committee meeting.  The intent is to align telehealth services with your organization’s greater strategic plan.  It is the minimum that is recommended by MATTeR regardless of how extensive your telehealth department/service is.

Spoke sites that do not routinely do strategic planning for telehealth may want to spend time with this model to make sure they are getting the most from their telehealth commitment.

  • Distribute your organization’s strategic plan for committee review
  • For each goal or objective of the plan (depending on the plan format), ask the question:

“How can telehealth help our organization to achieve this goal/objective?”

  • Allow for a free flow of ideas* and post for all to see
  • Discuss and prioritize the responses
  • Develop agreed upon strategies into measurable objectives.  One or two people may do this after the meeting.  Distribute proposed objectives for review and final agreement.
  • Assign responsibilities and time lines
  • Review progress and revise plan annually

*It is important that the group understand the rules of brainstorming.  A free flow of ideas should happen within an environment where every idea – no matter how impractical or wacky it is – be acknowledged without judgment.  A trained facilitator will have the skills to redirect the group or individual away from judgment of ideas.
